This manuscript shows new interesting reconstructions of temperature conditions at the base of the Laurentide Ice Sheet during the last glacial cycle using borehole temperature data. These results are extremely important for understanding the dynamics of the ice sheets and global climate change.
The reviewers and other researchers who commented the MS has shown the great potentiality of this MS, however they raised several issues that prevent me to accept the MS as it is. The authors have carefully replied to all the comments on the methodology and on the way how depth profiles are affected by the vertical variations in heat production and how that these variations should be properly accounted for before inverting the profiles for ground surface temperature history. This is a long standing issue in borehole temperature reconstruction an must be certainly accounted for.
I would strongly recommend the authors to submit a revised version of the MS taking into account all the comments made by the referees and by the commenters.
I would also thank the reviewers and the other colleagues that have commented on the MS for their great competence and for the time spent to improve the MS. This is exactly in the spirit of a open-access journal.
